Today we will introduce the extremely important Reed-Solomon codes. Today, weβll look at the historical perspective for the codes as Reed and Solomon conceived of them. Then weβll look at a more modern and general perspective and use that to understand their properties better.
Before our class meeting, you should use the resources below to be able to learn the following. You should be reasonably fluent with these; weβll answer some questions on them in class but not reteach them in detail.
State and give examples of a definition of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes and generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes, code locators, column multipliers, primitive GRS code, normalized GRS code, narrow-sense GRS code, (singly) extended GRS code
